Restoring wetland

Today, a Baraza on Wetland Restoration was conducted by the Natural Resources Department in collaboration with the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), the Deputy Resident District Commissioner, and the District Internal Security Officer at Kongoro Parish and Kibuba-Nyakaikara in the Ndeija sub-county. Evelyne Kyomugisha, resources warned locals to avoid encroaching on wetlands to protect the ecosystem for coming generations. Sarah Ayijuka of NEMA informed members that it's a presidential directive to restore all wetlands and it can't be debated about but rather to use the one-month grace period given to harvest their crops and leave the swamps to restore. She emphasized the need to educate people about how to use the environment. During the discussions, Besigwa Kagyenda from Rugazi asked about ways to plug drainage tunnels to save water for residential usage. Yekemia Tumusime expressed dissatisfaction with the time allocated for them to harvest their crops.
